Feature TNL Show and Tell: Dr. Muto Bobblehead 08/02/2004
I hope this doctor prescribes something for the terrible nightmares he causes

Hey look! MST3K's Dr. Forrester got a bobblehead, how cool is that!? No wait, my mistake - it's actually Midway's Dr. Muto. Sorry about that. . . .

Still, as long as it's here lets give it a once-over. Dr. Muto, star of the platformer now available in budget dump-bins near you, is another attempt at coming up with a mascot character designed by people who like to frighten children. He's supposed to be a mad scientist sort who transforms into different animals for taking on different challenges, but really he's just plain creepy to look at. It's not his rumpled tie or off-kilter lab coat that does it, it's the totally crazed, menacing expression on his overly large head. He just ain't right.

Still, he does make a fairly nifty bobble for those who like bobbleheads. He's well painted, nicely detailed, and his head does indeed bobble as a bobblehead should. He's 8.5" from base to hair spike, and feels nicely solid when you hold him. He's also, as I think I mentioned once or twice already, kind of creepy looking.

Sorry, Midway, it's a nice promo but it was lavished on an undeserving character. Next time you do something this well done, might I suggest doing it of the grunt 'bot from Robotron? Or, as long as I'm dreaming, a bag of 100 assorted 1" Robotron mini figures?
