With just a few weeks before the craze of E3 gets underway, Sony has given us a taste of its forthcoming titles which will be on display. We know they know something about racing (Grand Turismo) and sports (see: any 989 title), but how about Greek mythology?

Enter God of War, an action-adventure currently in development by Sony's Santa Monica Studios. It promises to offer players an explosive, action-packed experience without being one of those "save the world" type of games, so no worries there.

At this point in time, there's not a whole lot that we know about the game (which only makes us more curious. We know you'll play the role of a warrior. We also know it will offer a "deep combat system" built around unique double chain weapons (guess you should start working on your button mashing skills). God of War boasts a relatively large degree of interaction as structures fall and crumble to the ground and soldiers battle and die before you. You say you like puzzles? Great, you'll find those in abundance, too. And most importantly, we know that you'll have a great time trekking through various environments filled with fierce enemies.

You know, all this talk about Greeks and stuff and it's just reminded me how I still haven't bothered to watch Gladiator (hush).

Based on the first (impressive) screens and details we have so far, God of War has piqued our interest and we look forward to bringing you more about the game at E3. Point us to Greece, we'll be there.

Features:

  • God of War introduces a brutal slice of life set in the mythological Greek era. Players can live according to their own nature. Even if it is by brute force.
  • Defining the next evolution in gaming, God of War presents an explosive gameplay mix: raw melee combat fused with traps, stunts, and story-driven puzzles.
  • Huge collection of moves: players can swing on ropes, scale mountain cliffs, swim through rivers, slide down zip lines.
  • Players can experience a real-time world of interactivity: soldiers battle and die, structures fall to the ground, and the dark, violent world of Greek mythology comes to life in gory detail.
  • Players can unravel a sadistic plot line with over an hour of in-game cut scenes and multiple endings.
  • From the creative director of the Twisted Metal franchise.
