With such a weak presence of RPGs inhabiting the PS2, it's safe to say that gamers will be intrigued by anything that proves remotely interesting. Fortunately, Tsugunai: Atonement aims to offer anything beyond a passing interest for RPG fans, as Atlus, the publisher of everything obscure (and magically delicious) has unveiled details to one of its upcoming RPGs (Wizardy being the second title) in development for the PlayStation 2 platform. Featuring a bold storyline with over a dozen playable characters and an awesome battle system that wouldn't be out of place in an action game, Tsugunai is sure to turn some heads and also twist some tongues while gamers attempt to tell their local game store employee of their title of choice.

Tsugunai revolves around the journies of a mercenary named Leise, who (uh oh) has angered the God of Light by removing the mystical Treasure Orb from its sacred pedestal. To punish the foolish lad, Mr. "Look at me I'm the God of Light" separates his soul from his body until he atones for his sins by helping the people of the country of Walondia. Unfortunately for Leise, he must accomplish this task by possessing the bodies of those he wants to save. In the process, he must confront the evil that has covered Waldonia.

"Tsugunai is a wonderful departure from the tired concepts being used in RPGs today," said Sonoko Saito, Product Manager, Atlus U.S.A., Inc. "Possessing the different characters in the game enables the user to view the story from many perspectives and not just the main hero's. This unique way of presenting the narrative enables us to turn the town of Walondia into a living, breathing world."

So what can you expect in Tsugunai?

  • Dodge, counter attack and block! Kick Punch! It's all in the mind! (Er...wrong game.)
  • Possession System allows you to take control of over a dozen different characters in the game!
  • Spellbinding graphics and eye-popping magic spells!
  • Haunting Celtic-themed soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda of Chrono Trigger/Cross fame!
